Bio maggie-spencer
Maggie Spencer began working with glass as a hobby in the ‘70’s while studying Engineering Science at the University of California, Irvine. Though she abandoned the engineering, she kept the enthusiasm for glass, and in 1993 it became her career. She continually learns new glass techniques that keep her art evolving, energetic and enthusiastic. Maggie’s glass fusion radiates with capricious colors and shapes, an infusion that reflects her own Zen philosophy of a joyful and enriched life. She has maintained a studio in Laguna Canyon for over 20 years and is a long term Sawdust Festival Exhibitor.

Art Glass Clay with Paula Radke

paula-radke-glass-pieces

In this class we will learn about the possibilities for Art Glass Clay.  Students will learn how to mix the clay.  We will mold and roll and cut beads, We will use texture plates and molds as tools to shape and layer the clay. After the clay is air dried, it is easily sanded and carved for more detail.  It is also easily pierced in the dried state. We will make collages showing how to join dry pieces.  The class will be technique rich and Paula will allow students to explore the area that interests them the most.

Biopaula_radke_image

Paula has been working with glass for 30 years, first studying under Boyce Lundstrom, co-founder of Bullseye Glass, and making her living making art glass.  Most of these years focused on the magic of dichroic glass.  In March 2010 she discovered glass clay and has been working with this new and exciting material obsessively since.  For the past year, she has extensively worked with glass clay, developing a technique that works with the microwave oven.
