INTO ART WITH WEEKEND ART WORKSHOPS Laguna Beach, CA — On the weekends of March 12, 13 and 19, 20 art students of all ages and levels are invited to the Sawdust Art Festival to be inspired at art classes held at the Sawdust’s magnificent Laguna Canyon site. This will be the fifth annual Spring Into Art, and this year’s program looks to capture the imagination of many budding and experienced art students. Classes will be offered in a variety of artistic media, including the always popular glass-blowing, as well as oil painting, watercolor painting, glass sand casting, silk painting, jewelry-making, to name just a few of the classes All instructors are professional artists who love to teach the skills involved with their artform. Instructors include such well-respected artists and Sawdust exhibitors as John Barber (glass blowing), Olivia Batchelder (painting on silk), Sherry Bullard (ceramics), Loren Chapman (glass blowing), John Eagle (oil painting), Catherine Reade (fine jewelry-making) Michele Taylor (glass sand casting), and Susan Wade (beginning oil painting). Program coordinator Mollie Bing said, “Last year’s students said they felt as if they had gone on a weekend art retreat; one even compared Spring into Art to visiting a spa. The beautiful setting at the Sawdust Festival, as well as our superb instructors, really inspire people’s creativity.” Betsy Gosselin of Laguna Beach, who took Olivia Batchelder’s silk painting class in 2004 said, “I had a wonderful experience – I learned so much in a beautiful setting.” Sheryl Myers made a special trip from Vancouver, B.C. to Laguna Beach last March to attend John Eagle’s Oil Painting workshop. A beginner, she exclaimed, “I can’t believe that I will take home two completed paintings that are good enough to hang on the wall!” Fees for the 2-day workshops range from $100 to $250 and include all supplies, refreshments and catered lunches. Class size is limited to ten students, assuring personalized attention. This year’s Spring Into Art workshops will be held on the weekends of March 12, 13 and 19, 20.; additionally, there will be a glass-blown workshop led by John Barber on Friday, March 25 & Saturday, March 26. All workshops take place at the Sawdust Art Festival, located at 935 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.
