Sawdust Artists’ Benevolence Fund

Hosting Charitable Event: “HeART of Laguna”

For Immediate Release

Monday, January 30, 2012

Laguna Beach, CA – On Saturday, March 3 at 7 pm, the Sawdust Artists’ Benevolence Fund Trustees will host a community charitable event called the “HeART of Laguna,” featuring Jason Feddy’s critically acclaimed Shakespeare’s Fool concert, complete with live band and Shakespearean actors. Supporters of this event will have the chance to see the dynamic live act of rock ‘n roll songs accompanying the monologues from the plays of William Shakespeare. Energetic and light-hearted, Shakespeare’s Fool is a unique and original theatrical production not to be missed.

The “HeART of Laguna” event will take place on the Festival of Arts grounds at the Forum Theatre, with a complimentary champagne and hors d’oeuvres hour donated by Tivoli Terrace, preceeding the 8 pm performance. Tickets for the charitable event are limited in number and the cost is $50 per ticket. The monies raised will go directly to the Artists’ Benevolence Fund in attempt to replenish the $30,000 in grants that were provided to the many Laguna Beach artists that suffered financial loss during the 2011 winter floods. While a substantial amount of revenue was generated at the annual Artists’ Benevolence Fund live auction held at the Sawdust Art Festival last summer, the total raised did not sufficiently recover the grants gifted during the previous winter’s disaster.

As such, the “HeART of Laguna”  is being planned to ensure the continuation of the Fund’s ability to provide assistance to all Laguna Beach artists that find themselves in such dire need. Artists need not be affiliated with any art festival or gallery to be eligible to receive a grant. “History has shown that when an artist, who may already be walking a financial tightrope, finds that they are in a situation where they are unable to create their art, their survival may very well depend on the good will of others,” said Sue Thompson, an Artists’ Benevolence Fund Trustee. Support the well-being of all Laguna Beach artists and purchase tickets for this great cause. Tickets for the “HeART of Laguna” can be purchased online at www.sawdustartfestival.org/heart-of-laguna-tickets.

About the Artists’ Benevolence Fund

The Sawdust Artists’ Benevolence Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping working artists, living in Laguna, during catastrophic events and extreme financial difficulties due to natural disaster, personal illness or any debilitating circumstance that prevents the artist from doing their craft. The Artists’ Benevolence Fund was started in 1987 to help a critically ill Sawdust artist suffering from a catastrophic event and unable to work.  His fellow exhibitors joined forces, donated their artwork and sold it to obtain financial support for their colleague. For more info, Artists’ Benevolence Fund Trustee Sue Thompson can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
